Back to School!

It's been a busy 8 days in the Eagle's Nest! We have learned lots of new things already! We've talked about new rules, for our classroom and the playground, especially since we are on the "big" playground! We have been using our Smartboard, and it is a lot of fun. We've had 2 great Fridays in chapel, and did a great job on our Bible verse. We are settling in and looking forward to a great year!
Don't forget Open House is Tueaday at 6:00!

Field Trip Fun!

Last Friday 5K took a field trip to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson. It was great fun and we saw a lot of neat stuff. There were dinosaur skeletons, saltwater fish, and a two headed snake! We got to pet a baby alligator, a baby turtle, and a snake!  We took a hike on a nature trail, and then ate our picnic lunches. After that we got to play on a really huge and fun playground. I think everyone was tired after all the excitement and took a nap on the way home!
We are getting close to the end of school! Can you believe it? We will begin practicing for our end of the year program that will be on May 19th in the PDS gym.
Next week is Spirit Week, and it is always a lot of fun. We get to dress up on something different every day, and on Friday we get to wear our new May Day Play Day t-shirts and play some fun games at the Delta State football practice field. It's a lot of fun. Be sure to join us!

Holy Week and Lots of Bonnets!

Holy Week at PDS is one of the most special times during the school year. Last week was no exception! We celebrated the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through song, and different speakers. Each speaker told a different story of the the events of the week leading up to the crucifixion. We were extremely blessed with former PDS students sharing their musical talents with us, too. What a great place to be this time of year!
On Thursday we had our annual Easter Bonnet parade and egg hunt. Egg hunting was cut a little short due to the rain, so we played "musical eggs" in the cafeteria. A little different twist, but everyone went home with at least 6 eggs, and they were all happy! We hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!

A Very Busy February!

We have had a lot going on in 5K this month! We had a wonderful Valentine party. We ate a lot of good food, played some games, and won some prizes. The party planners were a hit!
We spent a week talking about Dental Hygiene, and Mitzi Garret, who is a dental hygienist for Dr. Lance Johnson, came and talked to us about taking care of our teeth. She brought a bag of goodies to help us keep our teeth strong and healthy.
We've also had several Delta State athletes come and read to us on Friday mornings. The kids love this, and we would like to thank the athletic department for allowing to spend part of their Friday morning with us.
Next month is going to be extremely busy, too. We have Spring Break and Easter holidays to look forward to. We also are going to work on our project for the on line auction!

100 Days Smarter!

Can you believe we have been in school for 100 days! Time has really flown by, and we celebrated with several fun counting games and writing our numbers to 100. Now that we have reached 100, there are only 77 days of school left! I can hardly believe it.

October Was FULL of FUN!

October was a BLAST! We took a great field trip to Bull Bottom Farms in Duck Hill. We took a hayride, slid down a super slide, and swung on a rope swing. We also all got to pick out a pumpkin to bring home with us!
We had our annual  PDS Hoe-Down and Bar-B-Que.  Mrs. Jackson taught us how to square dance, and we had a great time line dancing. Mrs. Burd's husband and sons served up some great bar-b-que.  The gym was packed with parents and grandparents, so we'll chalk it up as a huge success!
We have also really enjoyed having the athletes from Delta State reading to us each Friday. We've met some baseball, soccer, and softball players.
November is going to be busy, too.  Veteran's Day Chapel is always a very special time at PDS, and then we will have our own Thanksgiving feast on November 20.

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

This weeknight we have been learning all about insects! We found out that they all have three body parts and six legs. There are also over 1,000,000 insects in the world! I bet you thought there were only mosquitoes! We also four out that a spider is NOT an insect, and they are just as scared of us as we are of them!
We did lots of fun art projects, too! We made a beehive with our fingerprints, and we painted paper plates to make ladybugs! After we finished painting the body and the wings, Mrs. Jones added the spots. Their spots have to match exactly on each wing! Then we played a game. She gave us one of our wings, and we had to find the other one without looking at our names! It was not as easy as we thought it would never, but it was fun.  Next week we will learn more about these creatures and how they can help and hurt!
