First Day Fun!

The first day of kindergarten is a wrap! Everyone had a great day and left with a smile!😊 There were new friends to meet, new rules to learn, and a great big new playground to play on! Kindergarten is going to be great and we are going to have a fantastic time learning lots of new things! 5K we are ready!😊

Back to School Bash!

The Saturday before school started, Mrs. Jones invited all of the new Kindergarteners to her house for a swimming party! 21 5 year olds came and we had a blast. We swam and played with our friends that we hadn't seen all summer. We had a snack and swam some more! What a great way to get the year started!

DSU ATHLETES

We are so thankful to Delta State for sending their student athletes to read to us each Friday. The kids love it and they do a great job! I am not sure who set this up, but we have really enjoyed it. The pictures are of baseball Graduate Assistant Luke Stanley and basketball player Ben Harbin. Thanks again DSU!πŸ’š

SPRING AND DSU ATHLETES

We have been talking about Spring all week, and believe it or not, the weather has actually cooperated.  The first day of Spring was perfect! It was warm and beautiful. We spent our recess looking for different signs of Spring, and realized that the trees and the grass had turned green while we weren't looking.  How amazing! We've also found some worms and some bugs!  We made some beautiful 3D butterflies and talked about how their wings had to match perfectly. We will continue to talk about Spring after our Achievement Tests next week.

"I Do Like Green Eggs and Ham"

We have had a wild and wacky week in 5K. We celebrated one of our favorite authors, Dr. Seuss, this week. We wore crazy socks, had Wacky Wednesday, and had a photo booth with lots of fun props. It's been a lot of fun, but Mrs. Jones is glad it only comes once a year! Check out our photo booth shots below! Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Baseball and Valentines

We have had a great Friday! One of Delta State's baseball players, Jake Barlow, come and read to us this morning. He read The Nigjt Before Valentines. It was a fun story about a class getting ready for their valentine party at school.
After Jake finished he story, we started getting ready for Valentines Day. We made a special valentine for our special parents. We also are getting ready to decorate our valentine bags for our party on Tuesday. We are all so excited about getting valentines from our classmates. It's going to be great fun!

Thanksgiving Feast

We had a delicious Thanksgiving "Feast" in our room the day we got out of school for the holidays! We had delicious chicken strips, fresh fruit, cheetos, and mini cupcakes! Don't you know that is exactly what the Pilgrims and Indians had to eat the first Thanksgiving! Oh well! We enjoyed it! I hope everyone had a great vacation and are looking forward to the most special time of the year.

Election DayπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Tuesday was a special day for us at PDS. We got to "vote" for a presidential candidate. We signed our names and put an x in the box of our choice. It was great practice for our responsibility as future Americans! Thanks for the opportunity!

HOEDOWN FUN

What a great time we had last month at the Hoedown! Everyone did a great job dancing, and I think they even enjoyed themselves! Thanks to Mrs. Jackson for getting it all together and having faith in us! The bar-b-que was pretty good, too!

SMART BOARDS

We are having a great time every morning using our new Smart Boards to help us with our morning activities. We use them to do the daily calendar, the weather, and the days in school. The children love moving things around on the big screen. Thanks PTF for this great addition to our room!

Delta State Athletes

We have had the privilege each Friday to have Delta State athletes come and read to us. We have had baseball and softball players come already this year, and we are looking forward to many others as the year goes on. Thank you to the athletic department at DSU for letting these athletes spend some time with our children. They have really enjoyed it.

Shapes, Shapes, and More Shapes

We have had a really great week learning about our 4 basic shapes. We learned to read the words. We made cereal shapes, and we made a shape quilt. We also found lots of different shapes in our room and drew pictures of these things. Next week we will look at these shapes in 3D!

Back to School!

It's been a busy 8 days in the Eagle's Nest! We have learned lots of new things already! We've talked about new rules, for our classroom and the playground, especially since we are on the "big" playground! We have been using our Smartboard, and it is a lot of fun. We've had 2 great Fridays in chapel, and did a great job on our Bible verse. We are settling in and looking forward to a great year!
Don't forget Open House is Tueaday at 6:00!

Field Trip Fun!

Last Friday 5K took a field trip to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson. It was great fun and we saw a lot of neat stuff. There were dinosaur skeletons, saltwater fish, and a two headed snake! We got to pet a baby alligator, a baby turtle, and a snake!  We took a hike on a nature trail, and then ate our picnic lunches. After that we got to play on a really huge and fun playground. I think everyone was tired after all the excitement and took a nap on the way home!
We are getting close to the end of school! Can you believe it? We will begin practicing for our end of the year program that will be on May 19th in the PDS gym.
Next week is Spirit Week, and it is always a lot of fun. We get to dress up on something different every day, and on Friday we get to wear our new May Day Play Day t-shirts and play some fun games at the Delta State football practice field. It's a lot of fun. Be sure to join us!

Holy Week and Lots of Bonnets!

Holy Week at PDS is one of the most special times during the school year. Last week was no exception! We celebrated the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through song, and different speakers. Each speaker told a different story of the the events of the week leading up to the crucifixion. We were extremely blessed with former PDS students sharing their musical talents with us, too. What a great place to be this time of year!
On Thursday we had our annual Easter Bonnet parade and egg hunt. Egg hunting was cut a little short due to the rain, so we played "musical eggs" in the cafeteria. A little different twist, but everyone went home with at least 6 eggs, and they were all happy! We hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!

A Very Busy February!

We have had a lot going on in 5K this month! We had a wonderful Valentine party. We ate a lot of good food, played some games, and won some prizes. The party planners were a hit!
We spent a week talking about Dental Hygiene, and Mitzi Garret, who is a dental hygienist for Dr. Lance Johnson, came and talked to us about taking care of our teeth. She brought a bag of goodies to help us keep our teeth strong and healthy.
We've also had several Delta State athletes come and read to us on Friday mornings. The kids love this, and we would like to thank the athletic department for allowing to spend part of their Friday morning with us.
Next month is going to be extremely busy, too. We have Spring Break and Easter holidays to look forward to. We also are going to work on our project for the on line auction!

100 Days Smarter!

Can you believe we have been in school for 100 days! Time has really flown by, and we celebrated with several fun counting games and writing our numbers to 100. Now that we have reached 100, there are only 77 days of school left! I can hardly believe it.

October Was FULL of FUN!

October was a BLAST! We took a great field trip to Bull Bottom Farms in Duck Hill. We took a hayride, slid down a super slide, and swung on a rope swing. We also all got to pick out a pumpkin to bring home with us!
We had our annual  PDS Hoe-Down and Bar-B-Que.  Mrs. Jackson taught us how to square dance, and we had a great time line dancing. Mrs. Burd's husband and sons served up some great bar-b-que.  The gym was packed with parents and grandparents, so we'll chalk it up as a huge success!
We have also really enjoyed having the athletes from Delta State reading to us each Friday. We've met some baseball, soccer, and softball players.
November is going to be busy, too.  Veteran's Day Chapel is always a very special time at PDS, and then we will have our own Thanksgiving feast on November 20.
